Ohio Valley Voices squeals with excitement after completing their eighth year of participation in Cincinnati’s Flying Pig Marathon. This year Ohio Valley Voices had over 40 walkers and runners raising donations for the school. Ohio Valley Voices teamed up with Fleet Feet Sports to help gather participants to walk and run for the school. With their help we were able to recruit community members who were not familiar with Ohio Valley Voices and our mission. These runners were assigned a student to run in honor of. They were able to learn about their student’s story and share it with others who sponsored them in the marathon.
Ohio Valley Voices had many walkers and runners who have close ties to the school. Every year staff members, parents, families and friends run in honor of a child they know at the school. They have personally seen the change that Ohio Valley Voices has made on the students and how far each child has come since enrolling at the school. The Flying Pig Marathon is a great time for all to come together and have fun, while raising money for the school. This year Ohio Valley Voices had a tent in Charity Village at the race. Despite the pouring rain and cold weather on Saturday, volunteers were at the tent giving information out to the public informing them of our mission and success.
On Saturday night, Ohio Valley Voices celebrated the marathon weekend in style with the “Pasta Pig Out” at the school. There were more then 80 guests at the event and the top fundraisers were crowned the King and Queen Pig for the year. Our King Pig was Mike Schuetter, the father of a Discovery Center student, raising more than $1,100 for the school. The Queen Pig was Laurie Dickman, mother of a Learning Center student, who raised more than $2,000 for the school. The “Pasta Pig-Out” is a family friendly, fun event with face painting, a clown who makes balloon animals, and a giant pink pig to top the night off! The “Grand Swine “ of the event was Dr. Robin Cotton, from Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, who has raised more than $50,000 for Ohio Valley Voices in the Flying Pig Marathon in the past three years. Dr. Cotton has been a long time supporter of Ohio Valley Voices. Ohio Valley Voices would like to thank all of the supporters of Ohio Valley Voices and the Flying Pig Marathon event. This event has been a long time fundraising event for the school and we would not be able to do it without the help of the walkers, runners and supporters. A special thanks to our Corporate Sponsor, 76 Awards and Apparel.
